Strawberry Jam Contest

Is making jam your jam? The market will be hosting a Strawberry Jam Contest. Bring your berry creation to the Farmers Market by 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 6th to see how you stack up.

 

Rules: ï‚· Bring one 6oz jar/container of HOMEMADE strawberry jam. ï‚· Your jam may be either freezer jam or in a sealed jar. ï‚· Jams will be judged on flavor, color and consistency/texture. ï‚· Pre-registration is not required. Please bring your jam to the market before 5:15 p.m. on June 6.

AWARDS: 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded. 1st place award, $15 in Market money, 2nd place award, $10 in Market money and 3rd place award, $5 Market money.

GENERAL: By participating in this event, entrants agree to abide by the contest rules and decision of the judges. Entrants will agree to release the event and all who participate in the production of this event from any liability without limitations.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Contest

Chocolate chip cookies come in so many different shapes, sizes and flavors. Do you have a secret family recipe that is the talk of the neighborhood?  This is one of our most popular contests each year – We hope you will join us on Thursday, June 27.

Cookies will be judged on appearance and taste. After the judging the winners will be announced and then there will be a cookie and milk social for the contestants and the Farmers Market visitors and vendors. Milk will be provided.

 

Prizes will be awarded to the winner in each age group.

 

Rules: There will be two divisions in the competition: Youth (14 & Under) & Adult. Farmers Market vendors may participate. Each entry must consist of one dozen (12) chocolate chip cookies. Each recipe must contain a minimum of one cup chocolate chips per recipe. The cookies must basically be a chocolate chip cookie but additional ingredients (ie nuts, oatmeal, peanut butter, coconut) are allowed but not necessary. Cookies must not be larger than 4” in diameter. Cookies must be fully baked and will be tasted. All entries must be on disposable plates inside a zip lock bag. Cookies must be baked at home and brought to the Piqua Community Farmers Market from 3:30—5:15 p.m. The judging will begin promptly at 5:15 p.m. One entry per exhibitor please. ALL decisions of the judges are final!

 

AWARDS: 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded. 1st place award, $15 in Market money, 2nd place award, $10 in Market money and 3rd place award, $5 Market money.

Cupcake Decorating Contest

‘Fresh from the Farm’ is the theme of our annual Cupcake Decorating Contest. Bring six similarly decorated cupcakes to this annual contest on Thursday, July 11. Let your creativity wonder.

 

THEME: Fresh from the Farm

 

HOW TO ENTER: There is no entry fee and pre-registration is NOT required. You will need six (6) cupcakes – three for the judges and three to share. Bring your cupcakes to the Piqua Community Farmers Market located on High Street in front of the Piqua Public Library in downtown Piqua on Thursday, July 11 by 5:15 p.m. Participants may enter more than one type of cupcake and Farmers Market vendors may participate. Judging will take place at 5:15 p.m.

 

JUDGING: Entries will be judged for taste, appearance and adherence to theme. ALL decisions of the judges are final!

 

AWARDS: 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded in each category (Youth & adult.) 1st place award, $15 in Market money, 2nd place award, $10 in Market money and 3rd place award, $5 Market money.

Zucchini Bread Contest

Zucchini is in abundant supply at this time of the year and most families have a a time-tested recipe for the BEST zucchini bread. Bring one loaf of bread to market. We cannot wait to see (and taste) your creation. The zucchini bread will be judged on appearance, taste and texture. After the judging the winners will be announced and then everyone will be able to taste the contest entries.

Salsa Contest

Our annual Salsa Smackdown is the granddaddy of our contests at the Piqua Community Farmers Market.  There are three categories: mild, hot and most unusual. Our judges always have a hard time figuring out the winner but they have a GREAT time judging!

 

Rules: ï‚· Your salsa must be homemade - no El Paso please! ï‚· Most of your ingredients must be able to be purchased at the Piqua Community Farmers Market (except things like limes, orange juice, mangos etc.) ï‚· Your salsa can’t be so hot that it makes people cry! ï‚· Please bring at least one pint of salsa (approximately 2 cups) ï‚· There will be three categories: Hot, Mild & Most Unusual. ï‚· Pre-registration is not required. Please bring your salsa to the market before 5:15 p.m. on August 29.

Biggest Tomato Contest

Red, green or yellow – we are not picky about the color but we do care how much it weighs! Bring your home-grown beauty to this annual market contest.  Each entry will be carefully weighed and may the biggest tomato win! This contest will take place on Thursday, September 5th. Tomatoes may be entered between 3:00 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Tomato weighing will commence at 5:15 p.m. There is no fee to enter. Tomatoes will be judged by weight and may be red, green or any variation of ripeness in between.

 

AWARDS: 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded. 1st place award, $15 in Market money, 2nd place award, $10 in Market money and 3rd place award, $5 Market money.

Apple Pie Contest

Nothing says fall like a delicious apple pie and this popular Piqua Farmers Market season-ending contest is always a good one! Bring your favorite pie on Thursday, September 26th and prepare for stiff competition! 

 

RULES: No commercial pies. Participants are encouraged to use scratch ingredients and 60% of the pie must be apples. There will be two divisions for the pie contest – Adult and Youth (14 & Under.) Farmers Market Vendors may participate.

 

HOW TO ENTER: Pre-registration is not required. Simply bring your pie to the market before 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, September 26.

 

JUDGING: Entries will be judged for taste and appearance. ALL decisions of the judges are final!
